Nicholas Mata, MD

Dr. Mata

An Ohio native, he completed a Bachelor of Science with honors at The Ohio State University and then earned his M.D. from Wright State University. Having previously undergone multiple shoulder surgeries himself, in medical school, Dr. Mata took a particular interest in the treatment of disorders of the spine, nervous system, and musculoskeletal system. These experiences led him to pursue a residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) at Case Western Reserve University’s Metrohealth Medical Center.

During his residency in PM&R, Dr. Mata learned about complex, multidisciplinary treatment and functional restoration for a wide variety of neuro-musculoskeletal conditions. His leadership, academic work, and excellence in care led to his selection as Chief Resident. Throughout his training, Dr. Mata noticed that pain was consistently a barrier to patient success. To better provide his patients with expertise and more options to improve pain, he elected to undergo additional training by subspecializing in a Pain Medicine fellowship at Case Western Reserve.

Dr. Mata provides specialized, holistic, multidisciplinary medical care for a wide variety of musculoskeletal and painful conditions. He is skilled in a variety of nonsurgical-interventional treatments for the spine, nerves, and joints and can provide options for neuromodulation technologies for pain. He is a strong believer in safely restoring and preventing loss-of-function so that his patients can have more independence in their lives.

Outside the office, Dr. Mata enjoys being active, exercising, hiking, playing basketball, and staying involved in the community.
