Inflammation of the appendix almost always results in acute pain. It Is a serious condition that requires hospital treatment and is more common in younger people, although, it can happen at any age.  The pain normally starts in the mid-abdomen and then, spreads to the lower area. Straightening the right leg can often aggravate the pain as it stretches a muscle near to the appendix.

Gallstones form underneath the liver. This may block the intestinal tract causing pain. Any pain experienced tends to occur on the right -hand side of the abdomen and can be very severe. The problem grows worse after meals normally but any pressure on the gallbladder will cause pain if it is already inflamed.

Gastroesophageal reflux disease causes a burning pain – similar to heartburn. Stomach acid comes up through the valve that separates the stomach from the esophagus. This can happen if the valve has been damaged by trauma in the past. It can also happen through infection of the area. Eating a poor diet will also not help. Pain can be constant over many hours but is often much worse after eating.

The pain caused by pancreatitis is often acute and unbearable. The pain generated from an inflamed pancreas can be experienced in the upper or middle part of the stomach and often, is reported as back pain as well. Patients tend to not be able to lay still as the pain is so bad. If this sounds familiar, seek medical assistance as it will require hospital treatment and pain management.

Lactose intolerance is on the list because so many people suffer from it but there are a host of other intolerances that can cause stomach pain as well. If you are a sufferer of lactose intolerance, then, much will depend on the severity of it. A mild intolerance will probably not cause too many problems but when more severe, problems escalate, and it may become painful, with indigestion-like symptoms and stomach bloating.
